Hello and welcome, to introduce myself, my name is Chris, and I am an accredited Psychotherapist.

Qualifications and Training

I studied Psychology at the University of Bournemouth in 2011, where I learned research methods and different theories regarding common mental health conditions.

I trained initially as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner at the University in 2018. I learned low-intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques for Mild-Moderate Depression and Anxiety.

I trained as a High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist at the University of Hull in 2021. I learned about the core CBT competencies for the treatment of moderate to severe mental health conditions. The course is an accredited course with the
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), and I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.

I trained as an Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist at the EMDR academy, completing all four parts of the training.

Experience

I have worked in therapy since 2018. I have worked with people affected by Depression, Generalised anxiety, Social phobia, Health anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Arachnophobia, Emetophobia, and other phobias.

I am also the owner of my own private sole trading business www.cjcbt.com

Therapeutic Approach and Philosophy

I work in a traditional CBT approach while remaining person centred. Sessions would typically be spent discussing your difficulties and how they fit within the CBT framework. Then we would look at techniques to break the vicious cycles keeping you stuck and then for you to test the techniques in real-world situations.

With EMDR, I work with in accordance with the eight phases of the model, making sure that you’re processing your difficulties in a safe environment.

A Sense of the Therapist’s Personality

A part of being an excellent therapist is reflective learning reflective practice. Therefore, I have a great appreciation of the past, the knowledge I’ve attained through Psychology undergraduate, the people I’ve met and how they’ve helped to develop my confidence in my work. Being reflective has helped me to pay attention to what has been useful and what works well for the clients and colleagues I work with. My work ethic is to work hard, innovate, ask questions and be the best CBT therapist/human I can be.

Boundaries and Confidentiality

Anything shared within the sessions is considered confidential. The only time I would break that is if there is if there are any risks to self or someone else or any criminal activity disclosed. I do keep Clinical notes of the sessions on BACPAC a note keeping service that has the same protections in place as the NHS. I also store materials in session on iCloud safe and secure with password protections. Data handling is important to me and so I am invested in keeping your details safe. I use email for bookings and scheduling only. How confidentiality is handled, when and why it might be broken, and how boundaries (like timekeeping and contact outside of sessions) are managed.

Practical Info

I offer remote, hybrid and Face to Face appointments (Face to Face within Guildford area only).

My fees are £90 per hourly sessions, Fees to be paid up to 24 hours before the appointment or the session does not go ahead and the booking cancelled.

I require 24+ hours of notice for cancellations. Less than 24 hours will mean the session is chargeable unless an emergency has occurred (therapist discretion).

As per the research evidence base for success of interventions the sessions are once a week on the same day/time of the week. With the exception of holidays booked, which we would discuss.
