Hello, I’m Mark. I have been working as a psychotherapist since 2009, supporting people through a wide range of challenges. Alongside my private practice, I have been the Clinical Lead for an NHS Talking Therapies service for almost a decade. This means I not only work directly with clients but have also trained, guided, and supported other therapists to deliver high-quality care. My aim is to create a safe, grounded space where you can explore what’s happening in your life and start moving towards the changes you want to see.
My Experience
I first discovered my passion for listening and supporting others through my volunteer work with Samaritans in 2007, where I later trained new volunteers. Since then, I have built extensive experience across the NHS, the charity sector, and private practice. I have worked with a broad spectrum of difficulties, from depression, anxiety, and stress to more complex issues such as interpersonal challenges and complex PTSD.
Over the years, I’ve developed a particular interest in working with trauma and supporting LGBT+ clients. I find that therapy is often about helping people reconnect with parts of themselves that have been silenced or wounded, and I approach this work with care, curiosity, and respect. My EMDR training allows me to work deeply and effectively with trauma-based difficulties, while my background in CBT, counselling, and hypnotherapy gives me the flexibility to draw on a wide range of tools and techniques.
How I Work
Therapy with me is collaborative. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I combine evidence-based methods with a relational style, meaning we’ll not only look at practical tools to manage symptoms but also explore the deeper patterns that keep you stuck.
I use an integrative approach that weaves together cognitive, behavioural, psychodynamic, and humanistic ideas. This allows us to address both the why and the how of your difficulties—understanding the roots of the problem while finding practical ways to move forward. For some clients, this means structured CBT techniques to tackle negative thinking or unhelpful behaviours; for others, it may involve EMDR to process traumatic experiences or more reflective sessions that focus on building self-understanding and self-compassion.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a partnership. I will encourage you to explore, reflect, and challenge old patterns, but I will also meet you where you are—offering practical steps when needed and simply listening when that’s what’s most helpful.
My Values as a Therapist
I see therapy as a space for growth, self-awareness, and honest conversation. I value straightforwardness, warmth, and empathy, and I believe in helping clients find both insight and practical solutions. I am reflective in my own practice, always learning and growing, and I bring this curiosity and openness into my work with clients.
I also believe that change is possible for everyone, no matter how stuck or overwhelmed life might feel. My role is to help you find a way through—whether that means finding clarity, building coping strategies, healing from past trauma, or simply having a place where you can talk freely without judgement.
Confidentiality and Professional Standards
What you share with me stays private, except where there’s a risk of harm to you or someone else, or if criminal activity is disclosed. I keep notes securely and handle your personal information with care and discretion. Professional standards and ethics guide everything I do, but so does a sense of humanity and respect for your story.
